 Job Purpose

 

The Executive Director position provides a challenging and meaningful opportunity for a leader with a love for soccer, a passion for serving youth, and strong relationship-building skills. Our Executive

Director will understand and appreciate why youth participate in soccer while embracing the Club’s mission to provide soccer opportunities for the community that enhance character, community, and love of the game.

 

Reporting to the President of the Board of Directors (Board), the Executive Director is responsible for  the successful leadership and management of the organization (BSC or the Club) according to the  strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

The Executive Director performs the following duties:

 

Leadership

 

·         Foster effective team work between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and staff

·         Develop the strategic and operational plan, in partnership with the Board, to guide the Club

·         Identify, assess, and inform the Board of internal and external issues that affect the Club

·         Act as a professional advisor to the Board on all aspects of the Club’s activities

·         Act as a spokesperson for BSC; reflecting the values and vision established by the Board of Directors

·         Represent BSC at community, Colorado Youth Soccer, and similar activities, to enhance the Club’s community profile

·         Ensure that the community, BSC members, and staff understand, acknowledge, and support the mission and goals of BSC while making clear how the club will achieve those goals

 

Financial planning and management

 

·         Work with staff and the Board to prepare a comprehensive budget and operating plan and ensure adequate funding for the operation of the organization

·         Research funding sources; identify, pursue, and secure opportunities for grants, sponsorships,

and donations to support BSC development, facilities, and programs. Oversee the development

of fund raising plans, and document funding proposals to increase the funds of the Club

·         Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board

·         Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed

·         Administer the funds of the Club in strict accordance to the approved budget and monitor the

monthly cash flows of the organization

·         Provide the Board with comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the

Club

·         Ensure that the organization complies with all legal requirements covering employment,

taxation, and withholding payments

 

Operational planning and management

 

·         Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the club

·         Develop an operational plan, in partnership with the Board, which incorporates goals and

objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the Club

·         Ensure that the operation of the Club meets the expectations of its members, Board, and staff

·         Draft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement the

organizational policies; review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to  the Board as appropriate

 

Program planning and management

 

·         Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Club’s programs and services,

including, but not limited to 501(c)(3) policy and compliance, recreational program scheduling,

team formation, practice and field scheduling, facility and equipment provision and

maintenance, and all tournaments and events

·         Ensure that the programs and services offered by BSC contribute to the Club’s mission, reflect

the priorities of the Board, and fit with the operating plan/budget

·         Monitor the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the Club to maintain or

improve quality

·         Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects as provided

for by the operating plan/budget or by Board direction

 

Human resources planning and management

 

·         Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program delivery

·         Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices

including the development of job descriptions for all staff

·         Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate

legislation and regulations

·         Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help

further the Club’s mission

·         Ensure that all staff receives an orientation to the organization and that appropriate training is

provided

·         Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the

performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review

·         Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to improve performance

·         Discipline staff when necessary using appropriate techniques; release staff when necessary

using appropriate and legally defensible procedures

·         Encourage, and where possible, enable the continued development and education of staff and

volunteers 

Requirements:
 Qualifications

 

Education

 

·         University degree in a related field is desired

 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

 

·         Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written; well-spoken with strong public

speaking skills

·         Extremely organized and ability to engage with executives, volunteers, peers, staff, players and

member parents with composure and objectivity

·         Demonstrated ability and willingness to strike the best balance between autocratic and

democratic leadership styles

 

Proficiency in the use of computers for:

 

·         Financial management

·         Word processing, spreadsheet

·         E-mail

·         Internet

 

Experience

 

·         10+ years of progressive leadership experience with demonstrated success managing and

mentoring professional level direct and indirect staff. Experience in the nonprofit sector will be

considered favorably

·         Experience in youth development and/or outdoor education related field is ideal

 

Working Conditions

 

The position frequently works in an office environment while also requiring duties outside the

normal day-time work shift, to include evening and weekend commitments as necessary

(tournaments, soccer programs, representing the organization at public events, etc)
