The Real Colorado U-14 Boys National team and the U-15 Pride Predators Girls team are two games into the three-game opening stage of the 2014 US Youth Soccer National Championships in Germantown, Md. Both teams play again on Thursday morning, July 24. If they advance, both teams will play semifinals on Saturday (finals on Sunday).

U-14 Real Colorado National Boys team

The Real Colorado U-14 Boys National team won both opening games to lead all eight teams in the two groups with six points. Austin Pratte scored the first two goals to open the second half of Real’s 3-1 victory over Raiders FC from Illinois. The Raiders pulled one back, but Ben Shepherd nailed the coffin shut in the 58th minute.

On Wednesday, Jovany Herrera scored for Real in the 45th minute to beat Inner City Mana 00 from Texas, 1-0. At 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Real faces Scorpions SC from Boston.

U-15 Pride Predators Girls’ team

The U-15 Pride Predators girls’ team opened the tournament on Tuesday with a 2-0 victory over Futura Academy Forte from Lee's Summit, Missouri. Brianna Alger scored in the 43rd minute, and Athena Kuehn finished off the game with a 73rd-minute strike.

On Wednesday morning, Natasha Wehner scored the opening goal for Pride right before halftime, but Loudoun 98 Red from Loudoun, Virgina scored three unanswered goals in the second half for a 3-1 victory. Pride returns to the Maryland SoccerPlex for an 8:00 a.m. kickoff against the Alliance Academy 99 Black team from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Alliance Academy lost their first game 2-1 but won 2-0 on Wednesday. So the teams are tied on points, yet the Michigan girls have a one-goal differential advantage.
